I’m apart of ‘The Blogger Hub’ and I recently got an email about doing a blog post called ’24 hours in’ which you pick a city you’d love to go to, and explain what you’d do there in 24 hours. I absolutely love the concept of this, and jumped at the chance of doing this blog post. If you win, you win a 9 day trip for 2 exploring Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. If you don’t win that, 2nd and 3rd place win a GoPro. How amazing is that!?
So, what place would I love to spend 24 hours in? I’ve picked Italy. Why? I’ve been to Italy twice already, and it’s my favourite place to go to. I last went when I was 15 with my parents, so now i’m older I’d definitely appreciate the culture a lot more. So the Italian city I picked is, Verona.
I’ve never been to Verona before, and the main reason I’d go as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona, and it brings hundreds, maybe even thousands of visitors there each year to get that glimpse of romance.
I’d definitely start my day by walking through the cobbled streets, and going to a quiet cafe, grabbing a seat and ordering a hot chocolate and brioche, which is one of my favourite pastries. After having breakfast, I’d take a wander to Juliet’s balcony. I’ve always wanted to go there, apparently the balcony was only added in the 1930s and after all Verona is called ‘the city of love’ and I want to soak that up, as I’m a massive romantic.
I’d walk through the gates, and walk under the tunnel to enter into the yard where a statue of Juliet stands, and definitely take in the surroundings, especially of the tunnel you walk through as people from all over the world come to write their messages on the wall, and in a letter, I love the concept of that, being a romantic in all. The gold statue of Juliet is also a tourist pleaser, apparently if you touch the breast of Juliet it will give you good luck in love. I’d also definitely buy a package and go on a tour as I’d definitely learn a lot more about Juliet’s house.
After I caught that glimpse of romance I’d go to the street markets there. Italian street markets sell everything, and it’s one of the things I love when I visited before, so I’d definitely spend time walking through them, trying to find the beautiful homemade jewellery and clothes.
I’d wind down by going to a restaurant ordering pizza, as it’s the best pizza you will ever taste, followed by Italian ice cream. Might even treat myself to a cocktail to! The Italians love being generous and whenever I’ve been previously they give you a free shot of Limoncello which is a lemon liqueur, and I can now take advantage of that since I’m now the legal age of drinking. I’d slowly stroll home taking in the scenery, wishing I could have more days there.
I feel Verona is a place you’d need days to explore. I hope one day I can go there for real, and show you all how beautiful it really is.
