Five Years From Now | Paige Toon | Book Review

I love writing a good book review, especially when it’s one I am obsessed with and read in a day. It’s no surprise that Paige Toon is one of my favourite authors and if you have been on my blog a while now, you will know I have done many reviews on her books. Here is a review on her latest book and why it might be my favourite latest read.

What’s this book about?

I have never read any of the blurbs on Paige Toon’s book as I just expect them to be amazing. However, when I read the blurb after I purchased this book I was very intrigued! It’s about Nell and Van who meet when Nell’s Dad and Van’s Mum meet and fall in love. But very quickly their lives are torn apart. They meet every five years and soon realise is this a friendship or love? Who knows!

Now, this book is written from when they were kids, until they become adults. That was the one thing I absolutely loved about it, as you really did get to know every little detail about each character!

My Thoughts.

Honestly, my first thoughts were, “I need to finish this book right now and I need to know what happens next” while sobbing in to my Ben & Jerry’s. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster that I was happy to be on. I laughed, I cried and there was a few times I sat in shock at the little twists and turns I never saw coming.

I instantly fell in love with Nell’s character. It’s nice to read a book and see little traits in a character that you also see in yourself. However, when it came to Van, it took me a little longer to grow to him. It was about 4 or 5 chapters in that I eventually started to like his character, but by the end of the book he was the character I loved the most.

The other thing that I loved was how you could get a vivid picture of what each place was like. From the beaches to inside their home, I could just imagine what every little detail looked like, and it felt like I was apart of their story! I love books like that, were you can see what each character looks like, but also see what’s around them. It definitely draws you in more.

The ending definitely broke my heart a little. I had my heart set on two characters getting together (I won’t spoil who), and it didn’t happen. So, I am hoping Paige Toon releases a second book to follow up, as I kinda need to know what happens next!
